Who we are
CricZone is an Australian cricket publication. It reports the game, it keeps the scores, and it holds an archive of everything it has published, because a publication that quietly loses its own back catalogue is not one. The masthead is small and the beat is wide, which shapes what follows: we would rather cover a grade final properly than cover everything thinly.
What we cover
Live scores and match reports from the Test arena down to Saturday grade. Analysis, interviews and features. Official statements from boards and clubs, carried as issued and labelled as such rather than rewritten into our own reporting. Video, and the written coverage that belongs beside it.
Australian cricket
The men’s and women’s national sides, home and away, with the selection arguments that go with them. The Sheffield Shield and the one-day cup, which is where the next Test side is actually decided. The Big Bash and the Weber WBBL. Australia is the centre of this publication and everything else is covered in relation to it.
Women's cricket
Covered as cricket, on the same pages, by the same standard, and not as a section somebody remembers to update. Australia’s women are the most successful side in the sport and are reported as such. Women’s sides hold their own entries in the team index rather than an appendix to the men’s, and the rankings carry the women’s tables beside the men’s.
Domestic, club and pathways
State cricket, grade cricket, academies and school first elevens. This is the part of the game with the least coverage and the most people in it, and it is covered as journalism rather than as a results feed: a club match report is a report, with a byline, not a scorecard with a sentence on top.
The global game
Tours, the World Test Championship, the franchise leagues, and the associate nations whose cricket rarely reaches an Australian reader. The ICC rankings are carried in full, with the date the ICC published each table, because a ranking without its date is a number pretending to be current.
How the newsroom works
Every published piece carries a byline and a named editor who is accountable for it. A story moves through commissioning, drafting, review and publication, and breaking news that goes out ahead of review is flagged for review afterwards rather than slipping past it. Nothing is published without somebody’s name against it.
Corrections and standards
A correction is published on the article it corrects, dated, and never edited away. Material corrections are listed together so the record is readable in one place. If a piece is withdrawn it keeps its address and says why, because a URL that quietly starts returning nothing is a publication rewriting its own history. The complaints and corrections policy sets out how to raise one.
Sponsored content and advertising
Sponsored work is disclosed on the card and again at the top of the article, and is never styled to read as independent reporting. A sponsor of a section or a series is named in the section, not hidden in it. What is for sale and what it costs is on the advertise page, in public, rather than in a media kit somebody has to ask for.
Video, scores and data
Video is published on its own destination and plays from YouTube only when a reader asks for it: nothing on this site contacts a third party before you have agreed to it. Scores are carried live where a data source supplies them, and where the desk has corrected what a feed said, the correction is what you see.
Artificial intelligence
Where a machine has been involved in producing or altering what you read or see, it is declared. A person remains responsible for everything published. Quotes, results and facts about players are never generated. The full statement explains where the line is drawn.
