Rights and permissions
What you may reuse, what has to be asked for, and what CricZone cannot grant because it does not hold it. Every request reaches the Rights desk, which can see the record behind the asset before it answers.
Quoting and citing
Short quotation with attribution needs no permission. Name CricZone, name the writer, and link to the article. That is fair dealing for reporting and criticism and it is how a citation should read anyway. Reproducing a whole piece, or enough of one that a reader has no reason to open it, is republication and is covered below.
Republishing an article
Syndication is agreed piece by piece and in writing. Tell us the article, where it would appear, whether the audience is paying, and for how long you need it. Some work cannot be syndicated at all: anything with a contributor’s own retained rights, and, once paid membership opens, anything members have paid for while it is still theirs alone. Every article on CricZone is free to read today.
Photography and video
Most images on this site are licensed from agencies and photographers under terms that do not allow CricZone to pass them on. Where a picture is credited to an agency, the agency is who to ask. Where a picture is credited to CricZone, we can license it, and we will tell you the term and the territory before you use it. Every image on the site carries its credit in text under the frame for exactly this reason.
Scores, fixtures and data
Match data is supplied under a provider agreement and is not CricZone’s to redistribute. Screenshots of a scorecard for commentary and criticism are fine; scraping the scores hub, or reproducing fixtures as a feed, is not. If you want a feed, ask. There may be a way to do it that does not breach the agreement.
Teaching and research
Use in a classroom, a lecture, a thesis or a student publication is usually straightforward, and it is still a request rather than an assumption. Tell us the institution, the course or the paper, and roughly how many people will see it. There is no fee for genuine educational use of CricZone’s own words. Photography is a separate answer, because most of it is not ours to give.
Commercial use
Anything that sells something, promotes a brand, or appears inside a paid product is commercial, including a free article on a site that carries advertising against it. That is not a refusal. It is a different conversation, with a fee and a written licence, and it needs the territory and the term stated before we can price it.
The archive
Everything CricZone has published stays published, and the older material is subject to the same rules as this morning’s. Two things change with age and both work against a quick answer: the contributor agreement in force at the time may differ, and the picture credits on migrated articles are being reviewed rather than assumed. An archive request is answered from the asset’s own record, so it can take longer than a current one.
The masthead and brand marks
The CricZone wordmark may be used to identify CricZone: in a link, a credit, a press piece about the publication. It may not be used in a way that implies CricZone endorses, supplies or is associated with a product, an event or a campaign.
Ask for permission
The more of this you can answer, the more likely the reply settles it in one. If you do not know the territory or the term yet, say so: an approximate answer is more useful than a blank.
