About Joe Root

Joe Root is an English right-handed batter who plays county cricket for Yorkshire. He made his Test debut in 2012 and his one-day international debut in 2013, and captained England's Test side from February 2017 to April 2022 before being reappointed in 2026. Root was part of the England team that won the 2019 World Cup, top-scoring for his side in the final. He was named in the ECB's greatest all-time England Test XI in 2018, and was both ICC Men's Test Cricketer of the Year and Wisden's Leading Cricketer in the World for 2021.
