About Guyana
Guyana play inter-regional cricket in the Caribbean rather than international fixtures, and their best players appear for the West Indies. The side was known as Demerara until 1899 and as British Guiana until the country's independence in 1966. As Demerara it played in the first first-class match in the West Indies, against Barbados in 1865. The team competes in the Regional Four Day Competition and the Regional Super50 as the Guyana Harpy Eagles, and moved its home matches from Bourda in Georgetown to the national stadium at Providence. Clive Lloyd, Rohan Kanhai, Lance Gibbs and Shivnarine Chanderpaul all played for Guyana.
