About Montserrat

Montserrat are not a member of the International Cricket Council. The Montserrat Cricket Association belongs to the Leeward Islands Cricket Association, itself a member of the West Indies board, so Montserratian players appear for the Leeward Islands in regional cricket and for the West Indies internationally. A Montserrat side first played in West Indian cricket in the 1912-13 Hesketh Bell Shield. The eruption of the Soufriere Hills volcano in 1997 destroyed Plymouth and with it the ground at Sturge Park, and the side moved to the Salem Oval. Lionel Baker became the first Montserratian to play Test cricket for the West Indies in 2008.
