About Spain

Spain became an affiliate member of the International Cricket Council in 1992 and an associate member in 2017. Cricket is first recorded in the country in 1809, played by British soldiers during the Peninsular War, and the modern game dates from the founding of the Madrid Cricket Club in 1975, with a national committee formed in 1989 to bring the clubs together. Spain made their international debut at the European Cricket Council Trophy in Austria in 2001, beating Finland for a first win. The first Twenty20 International was against Malta at La Manga in March 2019.
