Australia name 16-player squad for three-Test tour of South Africa

Melbourne, 7 September 2026: Australia have named a 16-player men’s squad for their upcoming three-Test series against South Africa, with Pat Cummins set to lead a strong touring party. The three Test-match series will be played from 9 to 31 October at three venues of South Africa.

Cummins heads an experienced pace attack featuring Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Scott Boland, while Michael Neser has also been included to provide further fast-bowling depth for the three-match campaign.

Nathan Lyon remains Australia’s leading spin option, with left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann also selected. Cooper Connolly gives the squad another spin-bowling option while adding depth to the batting group.

The batting contingent contains several of Australia’s most established Test players, including Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head.

Cameron Green and Beau Webster provide all-round options, while Matthew Renshaw has earned a place in the touring squad.

Alex Carey and Josh Inglis are the two wicket-keeping options named for the series.

The selection gives Australia a broad range of combinations to consider across the three Tests, with significant experience in both the batting and bowling departments alongside several players competing for opportunities in the final XI.

South African conditions are traditionally demanding for visiting batters and place a premium on high-quality fast bowling, making the composition of Australia’s pace attack one of the key areas to watch during the series.
