Melbourne, 12 October 2026: Australia will mark 150 years of Test cricket with a specially designed playing kit featuring gold detailing when Pat Cummins’ side faces England in the historic anniversary Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in March 2027.

Cricket Australia and apparel partner ASICS have unveiled the commemorative uniform, which retains Australia’s traditional Test whites while introducing gold trimming on the collar and trousers, alongside a specially designed anniversary emblem.

The five-day encounter, scheduled for March 11–15, will commemorate the first officially recognised Test match, played between Australia and England at the same venue in 1877.

The occasion also brings back memories of the famous 1977 Centenary Test, when Australia defeated England by 45 runs — remarkably, the identical margin recorded in the inaugural Test a century earlier.

Former Australian captain Greg Chappell, who led the victorious 1977 side, joined current captain Pat Cummins in showcasing the new uniform.

Beyond its commemorative appearance, the kit represents Australia’s effort to connect generations of cricketers while preserving the traditional identity of Test cricket.

Cricket Australia’s Chief Commercial Officer Ed Sanders described the anniversary fixture as a defining occasion in the nation's cricketing history.

He said the gold detailing was intended to acknowledge the players and achievements that have shaped Australian cricket over the past 150 years.

The anniversary match will also create history as Australia’s first men’s day-night Test at the MCG, introducing a modern dimension to a contest steeped in tradition.

Strong demand for tickets highlights the significance of the occasion, with the opening three days’ initial public allocation already sold out, according to Cricket Australia.

For Australian cricket supporters, the commemorative uniform is more than a change of colours. It is a reminder of the game's extraordinary journey from its Melbourne beginnings to the modern international era.
