India to host inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy in 2027

Dubai, 2 September 2026: India will host the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy from Feb. 14-28, 2027, after the tournament was moved from Sri Lanka, the International Cricket Council said in a media release.

The six-team T20 competition will be played at the Cricket Club of India in Mumbai and the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium in Vadodara.

Sri Lanka had originally been selected to host the tournament, but the ICC said the event was relocated as Sri Lanka Cricket continues to implement reforms outlined at the governing body’s Annual Conference in July.

Bangladesh, India and South Africa were evaluated as possible replacement hosts. The ICC recommended India after assessing the three candidates against its host evaluation criteria, with the decision ratified by the ICC Board on Sept. 1.

“The ICC Women’s Champions Trophy 2027 marks an exciting new chapter for women’s cricket," ICC Chairman Jay Shah said.

“As the inaugural edition of the tournament, it will bring together the best teams in the world in an intense, high-quality competition, while creating even greater incentive for teams to continue rising through the rankings and competing for a place on the global stage.

“With a marquee ICC women’s event now taking place every year, we have a significant opportunity to build greater momentum, provide more consistency and create a stronger rhythm for the women’s game, its players and its fans around the world.”

Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka will contest the tournament.

The six teams will compete in a round-robin league, with the top two sides advancing to the final on Feb. 28.

The tournament will be played entirely in the T20I format and becomes the latest addition to the ICC’s women’s international calendar.

India will enter the competition as the reigning ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup champion, while Australia are the current Women’s T20 World Cup champion after reclaiming the title in England in July.

The introduction of the Women’s Champions Trophy means the ICC will now stage a marquee global women’s event every year, adding another major title for the leading international teams to compete for.
