Bangladesh Women name 16-member squad for historic Australia ODI series

Dhaka, 30 September 2026: Bangladesh have named a 16-member squad for next month’s historic three-match ODI series against Australia in Brisbane, with Nigar Sultana Joty continuing as captain and experienced spinner Nahida Akter serving as her deputy.

The Bangladesh women’s team will depart for Australia on Saturday, October 3, before playing a warm-up match against Queensland in Brisbane on Tuesday, October 6.

The three ODIs will be played at Allan Border Field on October 9, 11 and 14, with all matches scheduled as day-night fixtures.

It will be Bangladesh’s first bilateral women’s series against Australia on Australian soil and presents one of the toughest assignments for Nigar’s side against the reigning T20 world champions.

Australia also confirmed their squad on Wednesday, with Tahlia McGrath to captain the hosts during the ODI series and Ashleigh Gardner named vice-captain. Sophie Molineux will miss the Bangladesh matches as she continues her recovery from a hip injury.

The Australian squad includes several established international stars, including Ellyse Perry, Beth Mooney, Megan Schutt, Annabel Sutherland, Phoebe Litchfield and Alana King.

The series will also carry significance in the ICC Women’s Championship, with the three matches forming part of the 2025–29 competition that contributes towards qualification for the 2029 Women’s ODI World Cup.

Bangladesh have retained a strong spin contingent featuring Nahida Akter, Rabeya Khan, Shorna Akter and Sultana Khatun, while Marufa Akter and Disha Biswas provide pace options.
