Melbourne, 4 November 2026: Bangladesh pace sensation Mustafizur Rahman is set to make his Big Bash League (BBL) debut with the Melbourne Renegades in BBL 16, adding international experience and a new dimension to the Melbourne outfit's bowling attack.

Popularly known as 'The Fizz', Mustafizur has established himself as one of the most effective white-ball bowlers in world cricket, claiming more than 400 wickets across T20 competitions.

The left-arm seamer’s ability to deceive batters with his trademark cutters, slower deliveries and variations in pace could prove particularly valuable for the Renegades during the middle and death overs.

The Bangladesh international’s inclusion comes at an important time for the Renegades, who are looking to strengthen their bowling resources ahead of the new Big Bash campaign.

With extensive experience in international cricket and franchise leagues around the world, Mustafizur offers the Renegades a proven wicket-taking option and the ability to adapt to different match situations.

His variations could be especially useful on Australian pitches, where changes of pace and accuracy can play a decisive role in the shorter format.

For Mustafizur, the move represents another significant milestone in his franchise cricket career, with the BBL becoming the latest competition in which he will showcase his skills.

Beyond his impact on the field, Mustafizur's arrival is expected to generate considerable excitement among Melbourne's Bangladeshi cricket community.

To celebrate the signing, the Renegades have announced a dedicated supporter initiative called 'The Fizz Bay', giving fans an opportunity to come together at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) for matches scheduled on January 1 and January 16.

The initiative is designed to create a vibrant atmosphere for Bangladeshi supporters while strengthening the connection between the club and Melbourne's multicultural cricket audience.

As part of the promotion, the first 200 family tickets purchased using the code FIZZBAY will receive a 50 per cent discount.

The January 16 fixture will also see the Renegades face cross-town rivals Melbourne Stars in the highly anticipated Melbourne Derby.

Mustafizur expressed his enthusiasm about representing the Renegades and playing at one of Australia's most iconic cricket venues.

“I am looking forward to playing in the BBL for the first time with the Melbourne Renegades. It will be special to play at the MCG and I'm excited to join my teammates and contribute to the team.”

Renegades head coach Luke Ronchi has also welcomed the experienced Bangladesh pacer, highlighting the value of his international experience and wicket-taking ability.

Mustafizur is expected to link up with the Melbourne Renegades following the completion of his commitments in the International League T20 (ILT20).

His arrival will provide the Renegades with another experienced overseas option as they aim to mount a strong challenge in BBL 16.

For Australian cricket fans, the upcoming season offers a first opportunity to watch one of Bangladesh’s most recognisable fast bowlers compete in the Big Bash. For Melbourne's Bangladeshi community, it also presents a chance to cheer on a national cricket star on Australian soil.
